Canada Revenue Agency is providing access to more and more services online, and, given the recent closings of a variety of in-person desk-services at office across the country, they are expecting all of us to “get with the times” and get online too.
The best part is that these online services make it convenient to manage your dealings with CRA, including requests for information. Recently, we put in a request via “My Business Account” to have a change completed to one of our companies. We had been trying to make this change for 3 years via phone requests. But, our online request was answered and dealt with in one week. What a difference!
CRA has two online areas for you:
- My Account – to access to your personal information to track your refund, view or change your return, check your RRSP limit, etc.
- My Business Account – to access GST/HST, payroll, corporation income taxes, excise taxes, excise duties, etc. for your business.
It’s a good idea for you to set up online access to your account sooner rather than later as the process takes some time. Once you are registered for your personal and/or business accounts, you can authorize other people on your accounts (including your accountant), find notices of assessment, make requests, and make payments.
