As you can imagine you we are getting a lot of calls about the efiling service being down and how this will affect your tax returns. Here are a few answers to some common questions:
- We do not recommend paper filing your return (unless, based on the CRA’s filing rules, you are required to). If you paper file a return which should be efiled, there is a penalty for this. And, it will take weeks, sometimes months, longer for the return to be processed. It will still be faster to wait for the efiling service to come back online.
- While there is nothing official yet, we expect that there will be an extension for efiling. That being said, we have no intention of using this extension, and for us it’s really not going to be an issue. It just means that we’ll efile more tax returns next week when they have the CRA services back online.
- The online services being down has not affected our ability to complete tax returns, other than the efiling process. We are still working diligently to get your returns done as quickly as possible.
These are the three busiest weeks of the year for our team, and we’re working as hard as possible to get your returns completed. Based on the last 5 years, we are actually ahead of the game, and would like to thank you for your patience and getting back to us as soon as possible with extra information.
